McKinney’s all-inclusive health
care center for seniors, McKinney
Senior Health Clinic, celebrated
its one-year anniversary this past
July. The clinic, specifically de-
signed to serve patients who are
5 and older, has clearly defined
itself as an essential—and much
welcomed—addition to the area.
“It’s been a great first year, and we are looking forward
to many more,” says Zahid N. Zafar, MD, medical director
of the McKinney Senior Health Clinic. “It didn’t take long
for the word to get out about our one-stop, full-service
facility for seniors.”
Key services at McKinney Senior Health Clinic include:
Same-day appointments.
Walk-in patients for radiology and laboratory services
with physician orders.
Radiology services, including x-ray, MRI, CT scans,
ultrasound, mammography and bone-density screenings.
On-site, full-service laboratory services.
Coordination of care and immediate access to physi-
cians specializing in a wide range of areas, including
cardiology, neurology, endocrinology, gastroenterology
and otolaryngology (ear, nose and throat).
Coordination of ancillary services, including home
health and rehabilitation.
2-hour answering service manned by a physician or
nurse practitioner.
The clinic’s health care staff includes three primary
care physicians, one nurse and three medical assistants,
each with specialized expertise in managing the unique
health care needs of seniors.
When a patient first visits the clinic, preliminary family
history fact-gathering and screening procedures ensue to
identify potential health risks or areas of concern. “For

MCKINNEY SENIOR HEALTH CLINIC
CELEBRATING ONE YEAR OF SERVING SENIORS
instance, if a patient has a family history of heart disease
or is experiencing possible symptoms of heart disease
such as high blood pressure or high cholesterol levels,
we will refer them to a cardiologist,” Dr. Zafar says. “In
managing the health of our patients, key components are
staying on top of things and ensuring early detection.
Once a health condition is pinpointed that will require
further attention, our team immediately refers that par-
ticular patient to a specialist who will provide the best
and most appropriate care.”
WHEN EVERY SECOND COUNTS
Dr. Zafar is also quick
to add this important reminder: “I want to make it clear
that our clinic plays a significant role in managing our
patients’ overall health; yet, if someone is experiencing
symptoms of a heart attack, it’s imperative they get to a
full-service facility such as Medical Center of McKinney
as soon as possible. Reacting quickly and getting to a
full-service facility can save a life!”
Signs that can indicate a heart attack is happening
include:
Chest discomfort.
Pain or discomfort in other areas of the upper body.
Shortness of breath.
Breaking out in a cold sweat.
Nausea.
Light-headedness.
While some heart attacks occur suddenly with an in-
tense pain in the chest, most begin gradually, with mild
pain or discomfort. The person affected is often unsure
what’s wrong and waits too long before getting help. Don’t
let that happen to you or a loved one.
